Workers flee factory premises: Is iPhone production collapsing at Apple?

In China, employees of Apple supplier Foxconn fled after a corona lockdown. Numerous videos of workers leaving the premises of the company’s factory in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Zhengzhou circulated on social media over the weekend. You could see how people sometimes climbed the fences and escaped through the fields with suitcases and belongings.

The city government later issued a statement saying Taiwanese company Foxconn had promised to improve the living and working conditions of any workers who chose to stay. Orderly transportation must be provided for others.

The Zhengzhou factory, where hundreds of thousands of people normally work, is one of the largest production sites for Apple iPhones.
