US intelligence says more than $ 100 billion has been stolen from COVID relief programs, including $ 87 billion for jobless fraud

Furious! While some of you are hoping for another pandemic shutdown to get those stimulus checks and unemployment benefits going again, the Secret Service is running scam numbers on you and you are working hard to get you stolen coins back!

According to The Associated Press, nearly $ 100 billion has been stolen from COVID-19 relief programs since the pandemic began. The Secret Service announced that the Department of Labor and Small Business Administration has been collecting data from programs set up to help small businesses and people who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and found that 3% of the fraudulently distributed $ 3.4 trillion.

The Department of Labor reported that most of the money stolen came from jobless fraud, with about $ 87 billion “inappropriately” given to people.

In hopes of getting some of the funds back, the Secret Service is using senior official Roy Dotson, who will work with major banks to confiscate stolen collection funds. He will also work with the Justice Department to take action against fraudsters.

Dotson told CNN that the goal was to “maximize our investigative impact” and “win back as much as possible.” He also noted that the Secret Service has already helped return more than $ 2.3 billion of the funds, arresting 100 people in the process.

The CARES Act, a $ 2 trillion coronavirus relief package, was passed in March 2020 and earned millions in unemployment benefits. Unfortunately, fraudsters have also taken advantage of the law, according to former FBI analyst Crane Hassold.

“Via platforms like Telegram or WhatsApp, fraudsters openly share techniques and best practices on how to most effectively file fraudulent pandemic-related claims, which I dedicated to the topic,” Hassold told CNN.

The Secret Service plans to prosecute thousands more people who have submitted fraudulent documents for pandemic funds.
