Travel back in time: what was in the newspaper on your birthday?

In addition to major events in contemporary history, the digitized pages also contain all kinds of information that is no longer in the public domain.

Birth records, for example, or business information that can only be found in the commercial register for a fee today – and in a surprising amount of detail. And historical gossip is not neglected either.

The search portal is just getting started: with 247 titles from nine libraries. The oldest is a 1671 edition of “Il corriere ordinario”; it is an Italian-language newspaper that was published in Vienna.

The most recent title is taken from the “Rheinisches Tagblatt” of 1952. Anyone born before this date can find out what the big topic was on their birthday.
