The machines are the stars of the show in the latest PlayStation trailer for Horizon: Forbidden West, released this morning. The new trailer features some machines we’re already familiar with, as well as a trio of new fearsome enemies.
Like on the PlayStation blog, The three new machines are the armored rollerback, which rolls across the terrain like an armadillo; Sunwing, a majestic flying machine; and the acid-spewing Slitherfang, a giant snake that creeps across the ground.
These monsters appear to live in the rocky and sandy regions of the Forbidden West, which were also featured prominently in the trailer. You can take a closer look at these creatures in the trailer below.
The trailer also includes a narration about the dangerous landscape of the Forbidden West and says that machines rule this part of the world. The narrator suggests that the game’s plot may be about destruction and devastation not seen since the days of the ancients, which is the universal name for the people of the 21st century in the world of Horizon. Finally, the footage shows Aloy taking over machines and driving them like you could in the original.
We recently learned that Forbidden West developers Guerrilla Games are using ideas for machines that weren’t possible in Horizon: Zero Dawn. Lead machine designer Blake Politeski said the team was “able to combine some exciting ideas that were previously not feasible with new and interesting concepts”. Previously, we saw monsters like the Tremortusk, a huge mechanical mammoth that was the centerpiece of one of Forbidden West’s gameplay looks. Machines are also underwater in Forbidden West, which cannot be seen in Zero Dawn.
You can also take a look at Aloy’s new abilities in Horizon: Forbidden West, which include a grapple and a glider. If you’re still playing on PlayStation 4, check out the latest PS4 screenshots from Horizon Forbidden West. The game is scheduled to be released on February 18, 2022.
