Study with surprising results: why you shouldn’t sleep with the window open

In the study, the University of Mainz came to the conclusion that nighttime traffic noise has a significant impact on your own well-being and health – even if you sleep soundly and only perceive the noise subconsciously.

The noise level in your bedroom at night depends on various factors, but above all on the location of your house or apartment. Still, even when you’re awake, your body releases stress hormones from just one passing car, which can raise your cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

If you unknowingly notice traffic noise every night while you sleep, your risk of cardiovascular disease as well as mental illnesses, such as depression or anxiety, may increase. It is best to provide a draft 15 minutes before going to bed and in the morning after getting up.
