# Roommate, President Biden just made an important nomination within his government that will make history. It was recently announced that President Biden has nominated Shalanda Young as the new head of Office Management and Budget – and if the nomination is officially approved, she will be the first black woman to ever hold the position.

@APNews reported in a video announcement to reveal the news that he officially nominated Shalanda Young heads the Office of Management and Budget (which makes her the first black woman), and President Biden spoke about Young’s leadership and qualifications. “She continued to impress me and the congressional leaders,” he said, admitting that Young served as assistant director for most of 2021.

Following Biden’s formal nomination of Shalanda Young, a Senate confirmatory vote is now due to make her nomination official. However, it is currently unclear when the confirmatory vote is scheduled – although note that she was confirmed as deputy director back in March by 63 votes to 67, with more than a dozen Republicans backing her.

According to sources, the only potential obstacle to Young’s historic new title could be West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, who recently emerged as the key voice on President Biden’s agenda in the Chamber of Congress.

Shalanda Young was previously the Human Resources Director of the House Budget Committee. Following news of her nomination, House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi said she was “well deserved” in an official statement.
