Self-registration threatens: You must not ignore this letter from the GEZ

You should not ignore the GEZ letter. If the recipients do not react to the first letter, there is another reminder letter. If this is also ignored, the contributions department automatically registers the person concerned. The GEZ then assumes that the fee has to be paid for the apartment in question. Even if you receive comments that no fees have been paid yet, you will be logged.

If no GEZ fee has been paid so far, this will also be calculated retroactively to the move-in date. There is therefore a risk of additional payments. A retrospective registration will take place no earlier than January 1, 2020.

When comparing registration data, the following information is transmitted by Resident Registration Offices:

  • Last name
  • First names under designation of the first name
  • former name
  • PhD
  • Marital status
  • Date of Birth
  • Current and last address of primary and secondary residences, including all available information on the location of the residence
  • move-in day

Clarification letters are to be sent from January 10, 2023. But not everything is going well at the start of the year. until end of June 2023 all the letters should have been sent.
