Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G on sale: this smartphone is really cheap

Despite the successor, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is still an excellent smartphone, which in the Fan Edition (FE) still ranks 8th in the CHIP ranking – and is even ahead of the Galaxy S22 (standard model). The main differences between the Galaxy S20 FE 5G and the Galaxy S20 5G are quickly listed: the FE model offers a larger 500mAh battery and comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, not the in-house Exynos processor. For most users, it makes no difference in day-to-day life, but hardcore users may prefer the Snapdragon.

Visually a matter of taste: the FE model comes with a sturdy plastic back, the standard version here offers glass. In addition, the cameras deviate very little. The main camera is identical, but the S20’s telephoto and ultra-wide-angle modules offer somewhat stronger values - at least on paper.

The aperture is slightly better on the Tele (f/2.0 against f/2.4 on the FE model) and the sensor offers 64 megapixels instead of 8 megapixels. DThe sensor of the ultra wide-angle module, on the other hand, is slightly larger (1/2.55 inch against 1/3 inch for the FE). The Galaxy FE 5G has a whopping 32 megapixels for the front camera, while the regular Galaxy S20 only has 10 megapixels.

Galaxy S20 5G or S20 5G FE?

With both models you are right – and the decision is more a matter of taste. If you appreciate slightly better battery life and prefer the sturdier plastic back, you should opt for the FE model. Hardcore users will also appreciate the Snapdragon processor. The price also speaks for the FE smartphone: the variant is usually a bit cheaper than the S20 with a 5G module (see on amazon).

Do you prefer the S21 or the S22?

You can currently get the Galaxy S20 FE really cheap. From a price-performance standpoint, you get the best overall package over the S21. And the S22? This is currently still very expensive and is therefore only worthwhile for the most loyal fans – everyone waits a little longer or gets the smartphone in the tariff.

Our conclusion at the time of the test:

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G blew us away during our test with excellent performance in all categories. Due to the much longer battery life, it even leaves behind the in-house top model Galaxy S20 Ultra. The screen is bright and colorful, there’s a smooth 120Hz mode, the gear includes nearly all the essentials, and the camera does a great job too. If battery life is very important to you, we recommend going with the slightly more expensive 5G version of the Galaxy S20 FE, otherwise the 4G version performs comparable in the test.Read the full review.
