New test winner: This tablet is currently number 1 on our best list

New CHIP lab test winner: Apple iPad Pro 12.9″ 512GB 5G [2022] (MP223FD/A), a further development of last year’s large model, is convincing in all areas in our test and takes first place in our tablet ranking.

Highlights of the test winner include the excellent Liquid Retina XDR display. It measures 12.9 inches and has a very high resolution of 2732 x 2048 pixels. Brightness now reaches a class-leading 1,514 candela per square meter.

In terms of performance, the Apple model also gets the highest rating (1.0). Previous models already set new standards thanks to the M1 processor, but the iPad Pro 2022 goes even further with the M2 processor. The eight-core processor in combination with the eight GB of RAM can also convince in the benchmark. The tablet also shines in the graphics bench with an average of 106.6 frames per second.

In terms of equipment, however, Apple hasn’t changed anything noticeable in the 2022 iPad Pro – everything remains the same here. The only noticeable change is the Bluetooth standard. Apple updated it from 5.0 to 5.3, improving energy efficiency and finding connected devices. The cameras do a good job: the internal camera in particular takes very good Full HD photos in practice – they’re impressive even in low light.

While the battery is generally very good, its capacity of 10,758 mAh is a bit smaller than last year’s model. The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 is fully operational again after more than three hours – quite a long charging time.
