New survey: Germans call for tougher action against e-cigarettes
According to a poll, a majority of Germans want tougher action against e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters. The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg announced on Wednesday that more than three quarters of respondents are in favor of using neither e-cigarettes nor tobacco heaters in non-smoking areas.
At the 20th German Tobacco Control Conference, the institute commissioning the survey requested that this broad demand be met. Electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products should be included in smoking protection laws. These prohibit smoking in federal institutions and federal constitutional bodies, on public transport and in railway stations.
According to the survey, 81% of smokers and 78% of non-smokers are in favor of extending this ban to e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters. Even 66% of those who use e-cigarettes themselves support greater protection for non-smokers.
