New Battlestar Galactica movie will appear in a ‘shared universe’ with the TV series Peacock

X-Men veteran Simon Kinberg’s upcoming Battlestar Galactica film is still light years away, but we now know that the film will set in the same universe as the Battlestar Galactica reboot coming to Peacock.

Speak with Collider, Kinberg said he was in “constant communication” with Sam Esmail, the executive producer of the Peacock series. “There’s not much I can say about the situation with Sam and the show other than that there is synergy between the two companies and constant communication between us,” said Kinberg.

“We got closer and had a really good time together and, for lack of a better term and it’s an overused term, there will be a common universe.”

This indirectly confirms that the film will also be part of the universe in which Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica series takes place, as we previously learned that the Peacock series would tell a new story in the same universe. Unless the plans have changed, both projects seem to continue the myth of the popular 2004 show.

The Peacock range has no release date yet. The last thing we heard was that Michael Lesslie was on board to write the series and produce as executive producer. Lesslie was the showrunner for AMC’s The Little Drummer Girl and writer for the film Assassin’s Creed.

As for the movie’s progress, Kinberg says it’s still a long way off, adding that they hope to find a director for the project later this year.
