John Krasinski has revealed that he has refused to film a scene on The Office where his character Jim cheats on his wife Pam (Jenna Fisher) during the show’s eighth season.

As discovered by them New York Post, Krasinski wrote about the scene during an entry for a new book called about the show Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral Story of the Office.

Showrunners at the time had apparently planned to write a scene in the episode “After Hours” in which Krasinski’s character was “going out” with his wife Cathy’s maternity leave cover when the couple found themselves alone in a hotel room in Florida.

“This is the only time I remember setting my foot on the ground …” says Krasinski in the book, before declaring that he referred the issue to executive producer and director Greg Daniels.

“My feeling is that there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. You are so committed. We showed them so much respect. But there is a moment when if you take them too far they never come back. And I think if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back. “

While the couple had many ups and downs over the sitcom’s nine seasons, the show’s community will likely be glad to hear that Daniels ultimately chose not to direct the scene. Unsurprisingly, however, the director notes that a number of the factors influencing the couple were introduced, in part, to keep fans busy with the show.

“I feel that kind of concern about fan engagement was a good thing. I think they knew what was coming, ”Daniels says as he discusses plot points like the show’s decision to hire Brian, the sound engineer, to comfort Pam after an argument between the two.

“They were very comfortable with the show they got and I had to worry them that I might end up badly, so they were happy if they ended well,” he concludes.
