On Monday, president Joe Biden was addressing the nation as news of the new COVID-19 variant of the Omicron spreads and officials are starting to take precautions before it possibly gets to the US.

During his address, Biden said there were three messages that people should take away from his address. He said: “First, this variant is a cause for concern, not a cause for panic. We have the best vaccine in the world. The best drugs, the best scientists, and we’re learning more every day. And we will fight this variant with scientific and knowledgeable actions and speed. Not chaos and confusion. “

Corresponding abc news, a travel warning was introduced after the Omicron variant was first discovered in Botswana. Since then, other cases have been reported in South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Japan and Canada.

Biden credited the scientific team in southern Africa with identifying the variant and informing the rest of the world of its existence. “This type of transparency is encouraged and welcomed as it increases our ability to react quickly to new threats,” said Biden.

There was no talk of potential bans, but Biden was very careful to encourage Americans to get vaccinated if they haven’t already. For those who are already vaccinated, Biden advised them to get a booster vaccination if they are eligible.

Biden also said the White House is already working with officials from Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson if this new variant leads to a new vaccine to develop a possible plan.
