Jessica Henwick had to choose between Matrix Resurrections and Shang-Chi. decide

The Matrix Resurrections star Jessica Henwick faced a tough choice when she was cast in the sci-fi sequel Marvel or The Matrix.

During an interview with Weekly entertainment, the actress revealed that she was forced to choose between them The Matrix Resurrections and a role in Marvels Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings. The latter would have marked her return to the MCU, possibly as the Colleen Wing, which she portrayed in Iron Fist.

“For me it was a red pill / blue pill moment,” she explained.

Both Disney and Warner Bros. knew about each other’s plans for Henwick, with both studios giving her an ultimatum – she could only audition for each of their films if she gave up the chance to audition for the other.

The real kicker – no role was guaranteed, and similar to Neo in The matrix, it required a leap of faith.

Henwick eventually settled on Matrix Resurrections and got the role of Bugs – a character she sees as “the audience’s eyes” in the film. And during an interview with Cave of the outsider, she shared more details about her character.

“All they told me was a very brief description that she was a captain and leader and a true believer in the legend of Neo,” she said. “Yes that was it. It was pretty minimal. “

She also described her character’s fighting style as “fairly fluid”.

“That was a beautiful merger… just, ‘Okay. I now know what my body can and cannot do, and what looks good and what doesn’t. “

Henwick suggested that only last month The Matrix Resurrections would revolutionize the film industry with some impressive new camera tricks.

“There are definitely moments on set when Yahya [Abdul-Mateen II] and I look at myself … those moments torment me, “said Henwick. “Yes. Lana [Wachowski] does some really interesting things on a technical level the same way you know she created a style back then. I think she’ll change the industry again with this film. There are some camera rigs that I have never seen before that we use. That’s probably all I can say about it. “

Although both Henwick and Abdul-Mateen II are new to the cast, it looks like the latter will play a familiar face – Cast as the younger version of Morpheus.

Matrix Resurrections hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
