If the past is a sign of this, Grand Theft Auto Online’s winter update – usually known as the Festive Surprise – should be right around the corner. While Rockstar has yet to confirm the arrival of snow and Christmas goodies in San Andreas, we’re here to round up everything we know about the highly anticipated event.

GTA Online Winter Update: Festive Surprise 2021 Start Date

Rockstar hasn’t yet revealed when / if Festive Surprise will start in 2021, but this wintry event has been happening every year since 2014. In the past, the event started on December 18th and only on December 20th and lasts until the first week of January.

What is a festive surprise and what rewards does it offer?

Festive Surprise is a limited time free event for all Grand Theft Auto Online players. Not only does it bring snow for players to enjoy and / or create surprisingly deadly snowballs to attack other players or NPCs, but there are also new vehicles, weapons, Christmas gifts and outfits.

There are usually daily rewards for those who want to log in every day as well, and previous gifts were a fireworks thrower.

Some of the vehicles added during the event were the Vapid Slamvan, the Bravado Rat Truck, Dewbauchee Massacro, and Dinka Jester. Weapons include the Homing Launcher, Proximity Mines, and the aforementioned Snowballs and Firework Launcher.

Special box drops have occurred and contain items from previous events such as beer hats and a bunch of limited edition t-shirts that are no longer available.

And as if that weren’t enough, all apartments will be decorated with Christmas trees and there will be new tattoos in all tattoo parlors to add a little festive mood to your character.

Will Festive Surprise 2021 with the expansion of the contract history with Franklin and Dr. Dre start?

GTA Online is getting a brand new story-focused expansion called The Contract on December 15th. Set years after the events of the GTA 5 campaign, this DLC focuses on Franklin who works at his new “Celebrity Solutions Agency”. What makes this extension even more special is the addition of Dr. Dre to play along with new music by the artist.

The upcoming release of the contract could be the reason we haven’t heard from Festive Surprise 2021 and there is always the possibility that it will be a surprise and be part of this new update that is coming very soon. Alternatively, Rockstar can wait until it’s in the wild to talk about what’s next, as it might even be a little delayed this year.

As soon as we learn more about Festive Surprise 2021, we will update this page accordingly and keep you informed about everything related to this year’s winter update.
