George RR Martin has revealed that not only did he see a rough cut of the first episode of HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, but that he loved what he had seen so far.
Martin shared the news on his Not a blog website in an entry titled “Most Anticipated,” revealing that he was “very pleased to read that the most anticipated new show was aloud IMDB, was … (drum roll please) … HOUSE OF THE DRAGON! ”
He said that in a year that also includes “Amazon’s New Tolkein Series,” “Neil Gaiman’s Sandman,” “Marvel Shows” and “Star Wars Shows”, he is very proud to be House of the Dragon as “that’s a hell of a good list to be at the top.”
Sure, Martin wrote the novels A Song of Fire and Ice, which were then adapted into the Emmy-winning HBO series Game of Thrones, so he’s “barely objective,” but he admits he likes this series like many eagerly awaited by us. He also teased that he had seen a bit of it in action and loved what he saw.
“I’m pretty excited about HOUSE OF THE DRAGON myself, what it’s worth,” wrote Martin. “Okay, I’m barely objective. And I know a lot about what you will see (I, uh, wrote the book). Also … the first episode. And i loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral … just the way I like my epic fantasy. “
