Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed why he hasn’t played Bluepoint’s remake of Demon’s Souls and how the FromSoftware team were so impressed with the game’s graphics that they added extra pressure to the development of Elden Ring for PS5 felt.

As reported by VGC, Interviewed by Edge magazine, Miyazaki said that the Demon’s Souls remake’s focus on visual fidelity was not something FromSoftware put its top priority, and that’s why his team – the graphics creation staff in particular – felt this added pressure after the release of the Remakes. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t up to the challenge and that Miyzaki has all the world’s trust in his team.

“And not just at Elden Ring, but in all the games we do,” said Miyazaki. “Graphic fidelity is not our number one priority. What we ask for on the graphics side depends on the systems and requirements of the game itself and is less of a priority compared to the other elements of development.

“So this is always one area where I apologize a little to my graphics team because I know they work extremely hard. And they worked extremely hard on Elden Ring – our graphics systems team and our programmers pushed many new features to create the most beautiful games we’ve ever made. “

He then explained why he hadn’t played the remake of Demon’s Souls yet, even though the original is a different game that he directed. According to Miyazaki, it boils down to his not being a fan of reproducing his old work.

“As you say, I wasn’t directly involved, and I didn’t actually play the remake of Demon,” said Miyazaki. “But that’s because I just don’t like playing the games I’ve played in the past,” he said. “It stirs up a lot of old emotions, a lot of old memories, and it gets a little overwhelming.” , and it doesn’t feel like playing anymore. So I didn’t play the remake of Demon, but I’m really glad it’s getting this fresh look, this brand new, current generation graphic. “

He concluded by saying that while he’s glad that the game has been modernized for both new and old audiences, he was a little nervous as the development of Demon’s Souls hasn’t been the smoothest.

“It was an old game so seeing it get reworked that way and new players playing it made me very happy, of course,” said Miyzaki. “It was a tough game back then with a relatively tough development, so I was concerned that new players wouldn’t enjoy it as much. That was a cause for concern for me when it got re-released, but in the end I just love the reaction and happy to see people like it.

“One thing that was really fun was watching [Bluepoint Games] Coming up with things we didn’t think about and approaching certain elements of the game, its graphics and gameplay mechanics in ways that we either couldn’t or didn’t before.
