“It’s mine and I’ll stay next to him!” Roommate, when it comes to a woman holding onto her husband, no one acts harder than the wife of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, aka Ride or Die, Emma Coronel Aispuro . Emma understands the assignment and is facing a difficult time for her role in the Sinaloa drug cartel. Today a US judge sentenced 32-year-old Emma to three years in prison.
Corresponding CNN‘Emma will be in prison for the next three years and will be released under custody for four years. In addition, she lost $ 1.5 million in drug trafficking and money laundering related to her husband’s drug empire. Judge Rudolph Contreras also fined $ 300 for each of the three counts of which she pleaded guilty.
As we previously reported, Emma has been behind bars since March when she was arrested at Dulles International Airport in Virginia. When she was arrested, she was reportedly charged with a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for imports into the United States.
Emma went before the judgment during today’s verdict delivery and expressed her deep remorse at her involvement in El Chapo and the Sinaloa Cartel. In addition to the harm she may have done to citizens of the United States, she also took full responsibility, asking Judge Contreras to consider her 9-year-old twin daughters who already have an imprisoned parent.
Emma’s team also asked if her sentence could be held at a facility near Los Angeles where her daughters live, but it’s unclear whether the judge considered the request.
Roommate, leave a comment and let us know what you think of Emma’s conviction.
