Collapsing in court in tears, Kim Potter describes the moment she realized she shot Daunte Wright

Roommate, while Kim Potter testified in her own defense, she remembered tearfully the moment she realized she’d shot Daunte Wright. “I remember screaming ‘Taser, Taser, Taser’ and nothing happened. And then he told me I shot him, ”Kim Potter said on the witness stand.

As a murder trial against 20-year-old Daunte Wright continues to unfold, the woman who shot him, ex-Brooklyn cop Kim Potter, explained her memory of the events the night she killed him:

“I remember a fight with officer [Anthony] Luckey and the driver at the door. The driver was about to get back in the car … I was walking around Officer Luckey as they tried to get back through the door. They’re still fighting and I can see Officer Johnson and the drivers fight the gear levers because I can see Johnson’s hand and then his face.

[Sgt. Mychal Johnson] had a look of fear on his face – nothing I had seen before. We’re trying to stop him from going away. It just got messy. And then I remember screaming ‘Taser, Taser, Taser’ and nothing happened and then [Wright] told me I shot him. “

While Potter was still being questioned, Attorney Erin Eldridge asked, “You knew that lethal violence was unreasonable and unjustified.” To which Potter replied, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. “

As previously reported, Kim Potter, 49, was charged with first and second degree manslaughter on April 11ththat Daunte Wright was shot dead, of whom she pleaded not guilty on either count.
