Chris Cuomo was suspended indefinitely from his position at CNN after new details emerged on how he helped his brother Andrew Cuomo in his sexual harassment scandal.
As we previously reported, new documents released by the New York Attorney General show that Cuomo allegedly used his media sources to obtain information about his brother’s accusers. He was also reportedly in contact with Andrew’s top advisor.
“The New York attorney general’s office on Monday released transcripts and exhibits that shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense,” CNN said in a statement Tuesday evening. “The documents, which we were not privy to prior to their publication, raise serious questions.”
CNN said the information contained in the new documents led to the decision to suspend Chris “pending further evaluation”.
“When Chris admitted to giving advice to his brothers’ staff, he was breaking our rules and we were publicly acknowledging it. But we also valued the unique position he found himself in and understood that his family had to come first and his job second, ”the statement said. “However, these documents indicate a greater involvement in his brother’s efforts than we know so far. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely pending further evaluation. “
Chris Cuomo previously admitted that he was tracking down clues about stories that could affect his brother and publicly apologized back in May.
“It was a mistake because I put my colleagues here, who I think are the best in the business, in a bad position,” he said. “I never meant to, I never would, and I’m sorry.”
As we previously reported, Andrew Cuomo resigned as governor of New York and was charged with a misdemeanor on allegations of sexual assault during his tenure.
