Batman: Michael Keaton reveals why he left before the third film

Batman Star Michael Keaton revealed why he never returned for a third film.

During an interview with Backstagethe 70-year-old former Batman explained why he left the franchise afterwards Batman returns.

“I remember one of the things that I would walk away on: ‘Oh boy, I can’t do this’. [Schumacher] asked me, ‘I don’t understand why everything has to be so dark and everything so sad’ and I said, ‘Wait a minute, do you know how this guy became Batman? Did you read … I mean, it’s pretty easy. ‘”

It turned out that after Tim Burton left the popular comic book franchise, Keaton wasn’t exactly thrilled with director Joel Schumacher’s new direction.

As is well known, Schumacher left Burton’s duet with him Batman forever – a camp, exaggerated comic film with Val Kilmer as Batman. It is often viewed as one of the worst Batman movies, only with Batman & Robin (also staged by Schumacher) able to come close in terms of severity.

Why did Keaton dress up as Batman in the first place?

“It was always Bruce Wayne,” he said. “It was never Batman. To me, I know the movie is called Batman and it’s very iconic and very cool and [a] culturally iconic and artistically iconic because of Tim Burton. I knew from the start that it was Bruce Wayne. “

“That was the secret,” he added. “I never talked about it. Batman, Batman, Batman does that and I always thought to myself, ‘You’re all thinking wrong here.’ Bruce Wayne. What kind of person does that do? Who will this What kind of person? “

Upcoming DC movie The Batman is ready to explore just that, looking further back in Bruce Wayne’s vigilante career and ask what kind of person the habit wears to become Batman.

The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
