Annihilation writer-director Alex Garland is collaborating with A24 to create Civil War, a film about a near American Civil War starring The Power of Dog and Spider-Man’s Kirsten Dunst.
In addition to Dunst, this new film will also star Narcos’ Wagner Moura, Dune’s Stephen McKinley Henderson and Mare of Easttown’s Cailee Spaeny.
Garland will write the screenplay for Civil War and it will be produced by A24, Gregory Goodman and Andrew Macdonald and DNA’s Allon Reich.
Dunst, who many will remember as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, recently starred as Rose Gordon in The Power of Dog opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.
Dunst also starred in the USS Callister episode of Black Mirror, Hidden Figures, Fargo and more.
Garland himself received an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay, Original Screenplay for Ex Machina, and he won an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects for the film.
In addition to writing and directing the Hulu miniseries Devs, he was a big name in the video game world when he co-wrote Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, served as story supervisor on DmC: Devil May Cry, and wrote a screenplay canceled Halo film in 2005.
