Amazon wants the Wheel of Time to encompass all 14 books (plus the prequel)

If you know Robert Jordan’s high fantasy book series, The Wheel of Time, you probably know one thing: it’s a long, long series. But Amazon wants to finally cover the whole thing with its TV adaptation, even the prequel.

In an interview with IGN, Amazon Studios co-CEO of TV Vernon Sanders said the company is currently focused on the present, but would be delighted when the series eventually includes all 14 Wheel of Time books and the prequel.

“Our ideal is to work with [showrunner] Rafe [Judkin] and the team wholeheartedly, “he said.” Of course there is still a long way to go. So we focus on where we are right now. And Rafe and the team just shared the first couple of episodes of season two, and I wish I could pass them on to everyone right away. They are simple, they are great. “

Wheel of Time was renewed for a second season earlier this year, even before the first season even debuted. Sanders credits Judkins’ strong pitch and work on the show so far for this:

“It was just based on his creative beliefs and Rfe’s work on season one, and his pitch and layout for season two and beyond were so compelling that we had every confidence that we were going to have a show that people would love and a show that asked to go on, “he said.” So that’s all an affirmation of our instincts, but it’s really all thanks to Rafe and the work they do. “

Sanders also tells us that the show’s first three episodes “did very well” in terms of viewership and that new episodes since have seen “incredible growth” with “hundreds of millions of streams” worldwide for the series. He also repeatedly mentioned “high, high graduation rates” and said that Wheel of Time for an Amazon series so far ranks “very high” in terms of viewers who will continue to watch the series after it has started.

Our rating The first three episodes of Wheel of Time found it “beautiful, well played and heavily written” with a good understanding of the source material that was not true to the excess. We were a a little less enthusiastic about the latest episode, but with the finale debuting this week, we can hope that it pulls the season together in such a way that we want the rest of the 14-book saga a chance.
