Aldi breaks with age-old tradition: Discounter buys surprisingly popular drink makers

With the takeover of the manufacturer, Aldi Nord undoubtedly wants to secure the supply in the branches of the discounter. For the group, this is the end of a ten-year tradition: until now, Aldi has always got rid of its own production facilities and focused solely on retail. The only exception was the coffee. The discounter operates two of its own roasting plants here.

“The acquisition of the companies gives us the opportunity to maintain the production capacities of one of Germany’s most important foods in the long term”, says J├╝rgen Schwall, Purchasing Director at Aldi Nord.
