8 million drivers have to pay more: new type classes will apply from 2023

In all 8.1 million Germans will have to pay extra for car insurance starting next year because their vehicle has slipped into a more expensive type category. The Nissan Leaf and the Mercedes Benz GLC 250 Coupe 4Matic particularly caught the eye as they were upgraded to two classes.

The biggest improvements, however, brought the Skoda Kamiq 1.5 TSI and the Toyota C-HR Hybrid 2.0 and improved three type classes. Owners of these vehicles will therefore save in the future, as will 4.8 million drivers in total.

For the remaining 70% of policyholders, everything remains the same. This represents approximately 29.3 million citizens.
